needlework

I've been making doilies since I was 8. A lot of doilies. I think I lost count at seventy gajillion doilies. Almost all have been given away as gifts, but here are the few that were around at the time I got my digital camera. I crochet and tat them from very fine cotton thread, usually size 30 or 40. Occasionally 20 if it's the only thing I've got lying around, but never 10, because I think it detracts from the delicacy somewhat. To see larger versions, click on the images.

This is a little crocheted doily I made for my mom for Mother's day. It's one of my favorite patterns, very pretty, very simple. This is a very densely crocheted doily that I made for Priya as a thank you for the beautiful sari she gave me. I need to remember to give it to her.
Many, many miles of thread passed between my fingers to make this one. I crocheted it from a tablecloth pattern, but because I used such fine thread, it's actually a doily about three feet in diameter. This is a crocheted doily that I made just because. Very easy, very basic, but still a nice pattern.
I tatted this doily from a pattern that I found on the web called "Pink Doily" (though I made it in white), designed by a woman named Nancy. Unfortunately her page seems to have gone offline. This tatted doily was made from a pattern from the book A New Twist in Tatting by Catherine Austin. Great book with lots of pretty patterns for an experienced tatter.
This crocheted doily is a bit crumpled. It's one of my favorite vintage patterns, and I've made it several times.
